With my year 10s today we worked on the topic 'giving directions', before students were let loose in the school with their mobile phones being used as voice recorders. This was a great idea that was shared at a Lead Practitioner's event I went to last Friday (SSAT at Pilton) - can't remember whether it was Neil James or Chris Fuller's idea - and the students seemed to get a buzz out of using technology for a 'real' purpose - or was it simply that phones are a no-no under normal circumstances?
My original plan for them to swap phones didn't go down too well, so they bluetoothed their instructions to another team, who had to follow the directions and feedback on their destination. Students have also bluetoothed me their voice files, and we need to work out how to edit and convert the files so they can go on the blog. Our PGCE student, Chris, is going to try using Audacity this evening and will hopefully show me how to do this quickly and easily.....!
